The name Gedil is of Greek origin, meaning "çanak".

Köy halkının genel geçim kaynağı tarım ve hayvancılıktır.Gedil Köyü bağlı olduğu Akşehir ilçe merkezine 8 kilometre mesafe uzaklıktadır. Gedil Köyü Konya şehir merkezine mesafesi ise yaklaşık 101 kilometredir. Gedil sözcüğü Yunanca çanak anlamına gelen "kodyl" sözcüğünden Türkçeleşmiştir.
