📖 The Story
Built in 1299 by Eşrefoğlu Süleyman Bey, the mosque is the masterpiece of Anatolia's wooden-columned mosques with its 48 nail-free interlocking timber columns, kündekari minber and turquoise-tiled mihrab. The snow well at its centre has balanced the building's humidity naturally for seven centuries. In 2023 it entered UNESCO's permanent World Heritage List within the "Wooden Hypostyle Mosques of Anatolia" inscription.
