📖 The Story

A Seljuk-Ottoman caravanserai in the Obruk locality of Cihanbeyli, right beside a natural sinkhole lake. This watering point for caravans was a key stop on the Central Anatolian trade road. The han and the deep-blue sinkhole beside it form a striking scene together.

The khan was founded in the 13th century, in Sultan Alaeddin Keykubat's reign, as a station of the Konya–Aksaray caravan road; stones reused from nearby Byzantine buildings show in its walls. Caravans drew their water from the sinkhole beside it — today the same lake's turquoise backs the khan's stone walls.
