📖 The Story

Designed in the 16th century by the architect Sinan for Sultan Selim II, the complex comprises a mosque, bath, caravanserai and fountain. The building that led to Karapınar's founding is a steppe example of classical Ottoman town-making. Its graceful single-domed mosque is the town's emblem.

The complex was founded in the 1560s under the name "Sultaniye"; its mosque, caravanserai, bath, arcade market and primary school formed the town's very core — Karapınar is an Ottoman town born around this foundation. The ensemble is recorded in the building lists of the architect Sinan.
