Kızören Sinkhole
One of Central Anatolia's largest natural sinkholes, deep and vivid blue.
📖 The Story
The Karapınar-Kızören area is famed for sinkholes formed as groundwater dissolves the limestone bedrock. The Kızören Sinkhole, with its circular walls and deep blue pool, is a geological wonder. The region is like an open-air laboratory for anyone wishing to study sinkhole formation.
With a diameter of about 300 metres and depths reaching 145, it ranks among Türkiye's largest sinkhole lakes; its water shifts from turquoise to navy with the daylight. It is visited together with the 13th-century Obruk Khan beside it; a short dirt road off the highway leaves you suddenly at the rim of this geological surprise.
