📖 The Story

On the Konya–Aksaray route, this grand Seljuk han sheltered merchant caravans. Its sturdy stone walls, courtyard and covered hall reflect the era's trade network. With its monumental portal and austerity, it is a striking stop in the middle of the steppe.

The khan was built in 1236 by Sadeddin Köpek, emir of Sultan Alaeddin Keykubat, the name turning into "Zazadin" over time. Reused Byzantine architectural pieces and cross-carved stones can be spotted in its walls — a moving detail of Seljuk masters uniting stones of different faiths in one wall.
