Sahip Ata Complex & Pious Foundations Museum

📖 The Story

Built in the 13th century by the vizier Sahip Ata Fahreddin Ali, the complex unites a mosque, tomb, dervish lodge and bath. Its twin-minaret brick portal is a magnificent example of Seljuk architecture. The lodge now serves as the Pious Foundations Museum.

Its founder Sahip Ata, vizier to three Seljuk sultans, was the greatest benefactor of his age; the tiled cenotaphs of his family line the tomb. The muqarnas canopy of the portal and the glazed-brick minaret base carry the signature of architect Kölük bin Abdullah.
