Sırçalı Madrasa – Museum of Grave Monuments

📖 The Story

Built in 1242 by Bedreddin Muslih, the madrasa takes its name from its glazed-tile decoration. Today it is a museum housing grave monuments and headstones from various Anatolian periods. The turquoise mosaic tiles of the main iwan survive to this day.

Named for the glazed brick and turquoise mosaics of its main iwan, the building counts as the pioneer of tile-decorated madrasas in Anatolia. The tombstone collection in its courtyard reads like an open chronology of stelae from Seljuk to Ottoman times.
